Community Relations
The mission of the New River Joint Public Affairs Community Relations Section is to foster positive relationships between MCAS New River and local communities and to increase public awareness of the MCAS New River's contributions to national defense through interaction with Marines, Sailors and their families.

New River Community Relations assist with a variety of requests including:
Tour requests -- all requests for group tours aboard MCAS New River must be submitted to the Joint Public Affairs office at least 30 days in advance by calling (910) 449-6196.  A community relations representative will then provide instructions for completing the request.

Please see sample attached. [Request for Community Relations Support]

Some areas of the Station JPAO can give tours of, as well as offer some hands-on experience, are:

  • Meteorological Oceanographic (METOC) Services Station
The METOC Service Station provides environmental and oceanographic support to the Station, tenant organizations, transient aircrews and other tri-command users.
  • Air Traffic Control Tower
Air Traffic Control provides for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic.  It includes aircraft movements on the airport surface and within airspace where control jurisdiction has been delegated.  The Air Traffic Control Tower's function is to issue clearances and information to aircraft and vehicular traffic operating on runways, taxiways and other designated areas of the airfield and to aircraft operating in assigned airspace areas.
  • Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer

The Station has an ISMT to aid Marines in marksmanship.  In addition to simulating the known distance course of fire, the program is also capable of simulating inclement weather such as wind, rain, sleet or snow.  It's also used by military police officers for scenario training.

  • Flight Simulators (CH-53/CH-46/UH-1/AH-1/V-22)

Under management responsibility of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's Marine Aircrew Training Systems Squadron, New River has several state-of-the-art flight simulation devices for pilot training.  The devices, always treated as real Marine Corps aircraft, are capable to network with other simulators of different types of models outfitted with similar capabilities.

  • Station Marina
The Marina rents various types of watercraft, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes as well as a pontoon boat.  It has three picnic areas that can be reserved for parties, two areas where people are allowed to swim, four camp sites with open-fire pit permits and one big area with a park for children to play in.  The Marina also carries party equipment such as moonwalkers, dunking booths, etc.
  • Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training
Composed of a Headquarters element, the CH-46 Maintenance Training Unit, the CH-53 MTU and the V-22 MTU, the mission of Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training is to provide the best possible technical training to enlisted personnel in the operation, maintenance and repair of aeronautical equipment and systems in response to Fleet Marine Force requirements.

We do not prefer a specific amount of individuals per group, but we depend on the group leader's support for group supervision and accountability.

All Aviation requests, including static displays of Station aircraft – please submit DD Form 2535

All Non-aviation requests – support for community-sponsored events should submit DD Form 2536
