Mass Notification Systems (MNS). Marine Corps Installations East currently uses Alert! for mass notifications.
About MNS:
Systems we use to push warnings of an emergency which may endanger your safety, and for which you should take immediate actions, such as shelter-in-place, evacuate, or emergency lockdown.
Examples of MNS:
- eMNS (AtHoc)
- the 911 center sends emergency alerts by text, email, calls, popups on MCEN computers, and a downloadable application for mobile devices
- All personnel working aboard the air station are required to register work phone, work email, and a personal contact (home phone, mobile phone, or text)
- DoD sponsors and Civilian employees: contact your unit MNS operator for assistance.
- Persons living in family housing should contact the housing office or MCAS New River Emergency Management for assistance.
- All units shall register at least one person in all occupied facilities to receive weather related alerts from the Regional METOC. Contact 449-6862 for assistance.
- MCAS NR and MCBCL also use it to inform you of high-impact events which will cause inconvenience, but are not life-threatening, such as an unscheduled gate closure
- Wireless Audio/Visual Emergency System (WAVES)
- Commonly referred to as Giant Voice, these are audio alerts transmitted over outdoor speakers and select indoor speakers.
- Additionally, strobe lights mounted on the flightline side of hangars are activated during airfield hours, for weather alerts such as thunderstorms or tornadoes.
- there is no registration requirement for WAVES

There are additional systems which you can use to pull information about installation status, service resumption timelines, restoration plans, where to go for assistance, etc., while a crisis persists and in the immediate aftermath. These should not be confused with the Air Station's mass notification systems.
- Public information officers monitor social media during disasters and are responsive to questions posed by our community. Quell rumors and get the facts!
- Residents of on-base family housing are registered to an internal system by housing offices. Messages are generally limited to housing concerns.
- DOWEA and local public schools use notification systems for parents of registered students. Messages are generally limited to parents/guardians of registered students.
