Second Lieutenant Cook attended Officer Candidate School during the fall of 2003 as part of the Officer Candidate Class (OCC). Upon commissioning in December 2003, he reported to The Basic School as a member of Bravo Company 2-04 and subsequently attended Naval Aviation Flight Training in Pensacola, FL. Upon completion of flight school in June 2006, he was designated a Naval Aviator.
In July 2006, First Lieutenant Cook reported to the CH-53E Fleet Replacement Squadron, HMT-302, at MCAS New River, Jacksonville, NC. In February 2007, he reported to HMH-464 where he was assigned to the S-3 Operations department as a flight schedule writer. First Lieutenant Cook deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti from August 2007 to February 2008 flying in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA). Returning from HOA, he was assigned to the squadron’s maintenance department as the Airframes Division OIC. From August to December 2008, he deployed with the squadron aboard the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) throughout the Caribbean and South America in support of OPERATION CONTINUING PROMISE. In July 2009, Captain Cook reported to VMM-162(REIN) as part of the CH-53E detachment with the 24 MEU. Following MEU pre-deployment training, he deployed with the 24th MEU from January to August 2010 flying in support of OPERATION UNIFIED RESPONSE in Haiti and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
Upon return from the MEU, Captain Cook completed the EWTGLANT Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Course. He then reported to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). From January 2011 to March 2012, he served both as a company Fire Support Team (FiST) FAC and as the battalion Air Officer. While with the battalion, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM from May to December 2011.
In March 2012, Captain Cook reported to HMH-366, MCAS Cherry Point, Havelock, NC as the squadron’s Assistant Operations Officer. In July 2012, he was assigned as a resident student at Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS), MCB Quantico, VA.
Following graduation from EWS in May 2013, Captain Cook reported to The Basic School. He served as the Tactical Planning primary instructor in the Warfighting Instructor Group until October 2013. From October 2013 to May 2014, he served as a Staff Platoon Commander with Alpha Company 1-14. Major Cook was then reassigned to TBS Operations as the Assistant Operations Officer from May 2014 to April 2015. From April to November 2015, Major Cook served as the Commanding Officer, Company D, 4-15. He concluded his TBS tour in June 2016 as the Command Section Head, Warfighting Instructor Group.
In June 2016, Major Cook reported to HMH-464 as the “Condors” Logistics & Embarkation officer. In May 2017, Maj Cook reported to VMM-162(REIN) as the CH-53E Detachment OIC and ACE Executive Officer in support of the 26 MEU. Returning from deployment in August 2018, Maj Cook reported to HMH-464 as the Director of Safety and Standardization. Following his tour with the “Condors” Maj Cook reported to Marine Aircraft Group 29 in October 2018 as the Future Operations Officer. From June 2019 to June 2020, he served as the Marine Wing Support Group 27 Executive Officer. LtCol Cook is currently serving as the MCAS New River Executive Officer.
