MCB CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- The Provost Marshal Office’s (PMO) on MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River are supporting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this holiday season to remove impaired drivers from our roads.
PMO will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at strategic locations on MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River through Jan. 1, 2023.
Alcohol-impaired driving is on the rise this holiday period is on the rise both on and off the installation. PMO has already apprehended nearly double the motorists they did for the same time period last year, said Casey Johnson, deputy police chief, Provost Marshal’s Office, Security and Emergency Services.
To remain safe on the roads this holiday season, please follow these tips:
- Plan your safe ride home before you start the party, chose a non-drinking friend as a designated driver.
- If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.
- If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, ride-hailing service or a sober friend.
- If you’re hosting a party where alcohol will be served, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.
- Always wear your seat belt - it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.
- If you see an impaired driver, safely pull over and call 911.
