MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River are expecting marginal impacts from Tropical Storm Debby today through Friday, with rainfall totals up to 15 inches throughout Onslow County. Flash flooding, saturated soils leading to downed trees and potential power outages are the primary concern over the next few days.
This is a slow-moving storm, but the time for preparations is now. All personnel, tenant commands and activities should police call their outdoor areas and tie down or secure any loose items. Take in any objects that could be blown by the wind, including trash cans and play equipment as well as debris that can be carried into storm drains and cause flooding. Personnel should ensure all home and office windows and doors close properly and can be secured. Your emergency supply kit should be stocked with batteries and a flashlight should we lose power and have a few days of food, water, baby necessities, pet supplies and required medication should roads become blocked or flooded after the storm passes.
MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River will maintain normal operations throughout the event. However, if you live in an area prone to flooding or have other extenuating circumstances that may impact your ability to report Aug. 8-9, your manager or supervisor is authorized to approve liberal leave or telework, as required.
MCCS facilities will remain open, including child development centers, fitness centers, and the Marine Corps Exchange. The Marine Mart at Onslow Beach will be closed Aug. 8-9, 2024. For more information, follow MCCS on social media or visit their website at https://lejeunenewriver.usmc-mccs.org.
