JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- In an effort to enhance safety and security at installation entry control points, U.S. Northern Command has directed a change to the speed limit at all entry and exit control points on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River.
Effective immediately, the speed limit has been reduced from 25 mph to 15 mph on inbound and outbound approaches to all gates.
This change is being implemented to ensure safe transit through the gates to accommodate varying traffic patterns and the presence of active denial barrier systems, which could be deployed any time. The reduced speed limit allows drivers to react and respond to changing conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring the safety of all personnel and visitors.
To ensure compliance with the new speed limit, law enforcement presence has increased at all gates. Drivers who fail to adhere to the new speed limit may be issued citations.
The safety of all personnel, families, and visitors is a top priority, and drivers are urged to exercise caution and obey the new speed limit when approaching the gates.
