Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. -- The Panic Attack Haunted Attraction in Wilmington, N.C., is one of the largest haunted attractions in the state and offers an ample amount of fear for Marines and civilians alike.
Panic Attack utilizes Hollywood-quality special effects, elaborate sets and actors that will play off of and exploit your fears, said Robin Oglefey, Panic Attack haunted attraction manager.
“It is like a bad dream gone worse,” is one of the mottos that Panic Attack structures itself around while it attempts to send its visitors into a psychological massacre of haunts, fears and phobias.
“The Panic Attack haunted attraction contains more than 40 rooms,” said Oglefey. “Each room has its own unique theme and utilizes a different way to tap into its visitors’ deepest fears.”
The building that encompasses the Panic Attack is 20,000 square feet, which allows some rooms to be rather open and spacious for the actors to walk or run toward its visitors while others are enclosing and incite the feeling of claustrophobia.
“The insane asylum room is one of the scariest rooms by popular opinion,” said Oglefey. “I am one of the managers here, and I don’t like going through that room unless I absolutely have to.”
Some other favorite rooms are the clown room and the garage, Oglefey added. The clown room is bathed in neon lighting with an ample amount of blood spatter and the garage is quite off-putting because it is different from the norm with an old-school garage setting and crazed mechanic chasing guests everywhere.
“A unique feature we offer to our guests is a midway area where they can partake in a variety of carnival games, hotdogs and funnel cakes,” said Oglefey. “We also offer a motion simulated ride titled ‘The Last Ride.’”
The Last Ride simulation takes place in a coffin and simulates a burial, including hearing the grave diggers talking, the smell of yourself decomposing and feeling bugs crawl all over.
“The Panic Attack haunted attraction is by far the scariest and most suspenseful haunted attraction I have ever participated in,” said Damien Wright, attraction guest. “I cannot even explain how scary the rooms were, and yet it was the best time I have ever had at a Halloween attraction.”
