MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. -- Marines who are transitioning out of the Marine Corps, executing
permanent change of assignment or permanent change of station orders can
expedite their process at the Individual Issue Facility on Marine Corps
Air Station New River by being prepared.
Service members who have an air station check out sheet can prepare
their gear by ensuring it is clean, and by having all their gear on the
checklist, which can be found online or printed at IIF.
"Flaks and packs are a biggie for cleaning," said Trina Martinez, New
River IIF site supervisor. "We send issued clothing items to (Marine
Corps Base) Lejeune to launder. Items that don’t go in a washing machine
need to be cleaned."
The New River IIF, located by the new installation personnel
administration center and is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., issues
and returns gear to thousands of Marines annually, who are new to the
fleet, leaving the Marine Corps or going to another unit.
"If they’re switching units to Camp Lejeune, (Marine Corps Air Station)
Cherry Point or (Marine Corps Air Station) Beaufort they need a checkout
sheet and a copy of their orders to one of those installations," said
Susan Havard, New River IIF store worker.
From there, IIF can sign their sheet, and the Marines can retain their gear during their move to another unit.
Marines checking out and missing gear on their check list have the
option to fill out a missing gear statement, NAVMAC 6 form which is
routed up through a Marines’ chain of command or buying the gear they
need.
"Marines can go to the (military clothing store) at Camp Geiger and the
Exchange has some gear," said Havard. "But if they voluntarily want to
purchase the items, we recommend they buy them on base rather than out
in town."
